Julian Assange
Julian Assange has been freed while journalism has been criminalised
It's important to note that millions of people around the world showed up (despite our ABC's coverage) and saved Julian Assange's life. The mainstream media coverage in Australia could be likened to a mid 20th century visit from a British Royal.

Pubic Support is EVERYTHING!
However, Julian's release reiterates the need for an independent media revolution and we need it now!

Julian Assange is a fiercely independent Journalist and the founder of WikiLeaks. WikiLeaks along with the New York Times, the Guardian etc published leaked evidence of war crimes from Iraq and Afghanistan that essentially ended these wars. He is an information technology genius’ with an overwhelming drive for social and environmental justice.
As John Pilger said, we are in a war on Journalism and Assange sat at the center of all this. If you were one of the 36 million people that marched against the unstoppable Iraq war or the millions who relentlessly campaigned to stop these wars, then we must give thanks to both Julian Assange and Chelsea Manning (the whistleblower) who's revelations prompted Iraq's decision not to sign the Status of Forces Agreement.
Today, in Palestine, we are seeing what unchecked power looks like at its worst in what is legally being argued as the most brutal act of Genocide. Julian Assange under WikiLeaks, published a chilling 60 cables on Israel, from 1973 - 2018. The leaks covered communications with officials from the western alliance about the apartheid, sanctions and of Hamas being used to declare Palestine a hostile state, therefore every Palestinian a terrorist. Follow Richard Medhurst for more on Palestine.

Julian, was being held unlawfully in Belmarsh prison, in torturous conditions - as declared by Nils Melzer, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. Whilst repeatedly refused medical care and confined in isolation to a tiny cell 23 hours of a day. He did not see unimpeded day light for almost 6 years. It was attempted murder by process ... slowly, instead of instantly like the CIA had planned. According to the 40 CIA whistleblowers that came forward verifying an assassination plot.
For the short and entertaining background on Julian and WikiLeaks' timeline and sequence of events watch Johnny Harris. Note, evidence has since been revealed that at the time Assange was illegally removed from asylum at the Ecuadorian Embassy, there was a 'coincidental' change in leadership from a leader who was supportive of Julian Assange to a US friendly leader along with a bank transfer of $4.2 Billion in the form of a loan.

Smear Campaigns ran by mainstream media outlets effectively slowed public support.
The book 'The Trial of Julian Assange' author Nils Melzer share's one of the more simpler efforts to smear Julian's reputation yet sinister in it's premeditated form. Shaving equipment was removed month's before the embassy allowed the British police to illegally and forceabley remove Julian and imprison him within HM Belmarsh Prison. This un-kept appearance was used to tailor reporting 'in staged hindsight' that he was evicted due to his personal hygiene and lack of respect for his host.

Conversely, the polar opposite occurred when Julian was given gym privileges only months before his release. The mastery of scar-less torture that WikiLeaks exposed was then turned on him.
Even the most subtle smear campaigns are powerful making the global uprising for justice work harder. The campaigns enable the general public with otherwise immense amounts of empathy to lie blame with the victims. Allowing a guilt free disengagement when there are just so many victims in the world today.
As revealed by Oscar Grenfell a string of highly confidential decisions made within the Embassy were matched directly with abrupt measures to incrementally tighten the US's grip on Julian Assange. The US's timing to issue the extradition order corresponded to Juian's escape plan. Alerting all involved to an intensive spying operation set up by the CIA.
Thankfully, a technical staff member became a whistleblower after being asked to spy on not just Julian Assange, his legal team, a range of foreign and UK officials, doctors consultations but on his wife and their two children in their home.
A clear cut case of the degradation of the rule of law.
In 1973 Daniel Ellsberg the US military analyst who leaked the Pentagon Papers was released when it was revealed throughout his trial that the CIA had been spying on him.
As the US outwardly bullies nations, inflicting trade sanctions, infiltrating foreign policy to benefit themselves, slapping US bases encircling countries they deem as a threat - they are in turn predictably putting the western alliance countries national security at risk. These smaller nations are uniting and trading with the super nations that refuse to yield to the US. Evidence of this is being reported daily by independent media sources and their associated ex military advisors.

Seek out reputable independent media. They offer not just the grounded solutions to the forever wars, but ways that the current set of bullies can back paddle out of conflict and save face. A pivotal array of cogs that drive wars is the military industry with it's invested politicians. Check out who got rich from the Afghanistan War.

Redemption is the best course of action for those guilty of war crimes and releasing Julian Assange is only the start.

They released Julian Assange as his story had hit the tipping point! The world was given the international tour of ABC IView’s Ithaka in 2022 - 23. In 2024 we have the The Trust Fall selling out globally. Townsville has been approved for a statue of Julian Assange and the big rock bands of Oz were just starting to mobilise from within to take up the dare to #SpeakUpForAssange. The list of independent muso’s that are coming up with #SongsForAssange in a minute were just beginning to stack up. The support for Julian Assange was predicted to rise exponentially.
Excitingly, journalism continues to reshape itself and grow with the rise of YouTuber & social media savvy young journalists along with the popularity of independent media outlets to reveal the dark underbelly of these forever wars.
The revolution may not be televised but it's definitely all over YouTube if not Rumble!
What's even more exciting, there's a whole new batch of whistleblowers just itching to leave their toxic relationship for peace' sake. As for Wikileaks it's only a matter of time before the next heroic journalist, an IT genius like Assange (if not Assange himself) or activist wiz kid like Aaron Swartz, dusts off the cobwebs of Wikileaks or starts a brand new platform to keep the bastards honest!
